So, you are coming to Kissimmee, Florida, and you are bringing young kids with you. What a surprise! Okay, enough with my poor attempt at sarcasm. If you are coming to this area, you are certainly going to visit “The Mouse”. The Disney theme parks are some of the area’s biggest attractions.
First off, what is the best way of doing ‘doing Disney’? After all, all of the Disney parks are very popular. So, when do you stand the best chance of not being crushed by the crowds? Well, if possible, come in the fall, after school has started. Yes, it means taking the kids out of school, but maybe you can bring their books along. If that is not an option, and you have to come in summer, shoot for a non-holiday weekend. Visiting the parks the weekend before or after Memorial Day or Labor Day are a good idea. If you’re coming later in the year, try to make it the weekend before or after Thanksgiving. One of the slowest days of all for the parks: the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
If the kids want to splash around, try the Curious George Goes to Town play area. Not only can your kids spend hours getting wet, but the area has one entrance/exit for security, and plenty of benches in the shade for mom and dad to rest. And, don’t worry that the big kids will push the toddlers out; there are special (quiet) play areas just for the little ones. Then, when their all pooped out, slip on some dry clothes and go right next door to see Barney, live, on stage.
Of course, Kissimmee isn’t just Disney World. The area has numerous other attractions to entertain little kids. If they enjoy the old fashion rides of a merry-go-round, Ferris wheel, and go-carts; take them over to Old Town, right on U.S. 192. A full day of fun will only cost you $25 per child for unlimited rides. That’s a lot cheaper than any Disney park.
If your little ones enjoy nature, take them to the Green Meadows Petting Farm, or Boggy Creek for an airboat ride for a little excitement mixed in. Their website: www.bcairboats.com will give you all the details on the place and what it has to offer.
So, no matter the ages and interests of your young children, the Kissimmee area has plenty to thrill and entertain them.
