Discover Belize

Great Blue Hole

Belize is located south of Mexico and to the north and east of Guatemala. The largest barrier reef in the Western hemisphere is located off the coast of Belize and there are three lovely atolls as well as seven Marine World Heritage sites for visitors to enjoy.

Belize provides clean rivers for kayaking, canoeing, and rafting.  White water rafting is excellent on the Belize River between November and April.  In addition to the excitement of exploring the river, there are Mayan caves and artifacts to discover.  Crystal formations in the caves will dazzle the eyes.  The capital city of Belmopan is an orchid lover’s paradise.  The Guanacaste National Park is filled with beautiful orchids, brilliantly colored birds and natural delights.  Most visitors enjoy visiting the World Heritage sites when they travel to Belize

The barrier reef is the second largest coral reef in the world.  The water of the Caribbean Sea is a sparkling turquoise and home to abundant marine life.  Snorkeling and diving are popular activities on the reef.  The most popular site for snorkeling and diving is Shark Ray Alley in Hol Chan Marine Park.  Visitors can freely swim with nurse sharks and sting rays.  The famous “blue hole” is located in Lighthouse Reef Atoll.  The high salinity of the water helps to keep swimmers buoyant so swimming is almost effortless.

Xunantunich Visit Xunantunich archaeological site – a Mayan site in the jungle near San Ignacio.  At one time the site was home to as many as 10,000 Mayan people.  About 20 percent of the structures on the site date back to 600 AD, with the rest restored.  The highest Mayan structure in Belize is 130 feet high and easy to climb.

A small island, Caya Caulker, is a short catamaran ride from Ambergris Caya and a place for the traveler to relax.  Caya Caulker sports a beautiful strip of white sandy beach where everyone ultimately ends up at the fun Lazy Lizard Bar.  Locals and visitors are encouraged to kick back and “go slow”.  The bar owners want everyone to write their names on the walls so you would have a permanent record of your visit.

Roberts Grove Inn is located in the southern part of Belize and is a choice location due to its proximity to the barrier reef.  The rainforest serves as the backdrop for this beautiful resort that offers beachfront accommodation, restaurants, swimming pools, a sea spa, tennis courts and a gym.  Guests can enjoy sports fishing, horseback riding, and snorkeling on the reef.  The Monkey River, Mayan ruins, and the Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve are nearby and the Inn provides guests with guided tours of the areas.  The Inn also operates accommodations on two private islands for those who want a little more privacy.

Visitors who want luxurious accommodation can stay at the Blue Reef Island Resort tucked away on the island of Ambergris Caya that is close to Mexico, just south of Cancun. It offers breathtaking views of the reef and the Caribbean Sea.  The Blue Reef Island Resort offers one and two bedroom suites, all beautifully appointed, and world class service.
